This months "Muscle car of the month" is a 1968 Chevy Impala SS. This is one beautiful machine. This Impala has a 396 big block with a TH400 trans. Notice the Hide-A-Way headlights? A rare option for this car especially with 1968 being the first year available for the Impala/Caprices! According to our records, this option was ONLY available to the Caprice but word has it that a few Impala owners wanted this option so they demanded it! Who remembers this one?.......This is the 1966-67 Hurst Hairy Olds 442. This car was one of a few exhibition cars that George Hurst wanted built. This Beast had 2 Blown 425c.i. Olds Tornado engines with the Olds Tornado tranaxle's. 1 engine for the front tires and the other for the back tires. Its final run came in Niagra dragway just outside Buffalo, NY, I believe, when the front engine lost power from a bad magneto, which from the lack of torque, threw the front end all out of wack and the car went off the track and hit a cable that was supporting a pole. severly damaging the car. The pit crew had setup the front end with extreme "toe-out" because when the driver(handsome Joe) got into the throttle, the front end went "toe-in" and kept the alignment straight. No one knows exactly what happened to Hairy afterwards but there is a group of guys out there in the process of building a replica. I sure would love to see the new one.

         Chevy was relentless back in the day with this 1967 SS427 Impala. There was no stopping them!

Pontiac was just as popular as the Chevy's were. My personal favorite was the 1969 Gran Prix SJ with the rare 428ci engine!

The 57' Chevy Bel-Air was one of the most recognized Chevy's ever made. They were originally equipped the the 283ci SBC. Today, owners of the 57' have so many choices as to what engine to put in. Most go with a SBC 350ci engine while some go more radical with a nice BBC 454ci.

The king of all muscle cars. Although this is a SS396 in this ad, Chevy made the famous LS6 454 big block in their 1970 Chevelle's with a under-rating of 450 HP. Word has from a former Chevrolet employee who helped design the engine that this motor actually produced over 500 HP but was under-rated because of insurance reasons. A truly amazing machine! Very few LS6's were put into other Chevy's. Some include the El Camino and the SS Monte Carlo's.The photo on the right is a all restored LS6 454 Chevelle. Its was just sold for a undisclosed amount but suspect it was in the 6 figures easily.
